Abstract

Snack consumption is a common dietary habit among students and may significantly contribute to their daily energy intake. This study aims to describe the daily energy intake from snack consumption among students at SMP Muhammadiyah 14 Makassar. The population consisted of all students at SMP Muhammadiyah 14 Makassar, totaling 147 students. A sample of 34 students was selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the 1x24-hour food recall method and analyzed using NutriSurvey and SPSS version 22. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the average daily energy intake from snack consumption reached 959.97 ± 178.65 kcal, contributing 44.07 ± 8.31% of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). Among macronutrients, fat contributed the highest proportion (61.88 ± 20.73%), followed by carbohydrates (36.76 ± 8.46%) and protein (34.02 ± 13.13%). The types of snacks consumed varied, with packaged milk, sugary drinks, and fried snacks being the most frequently consumed, each with a consumption frequency exceeding 60%. Conclusion: Snacks make a significant contribution to students' energy and macronutrient intake.
