The Relationship Between Knowledge and Consumption of Sweetened Beverages with Nutritional Status of Adolescents at Mtss Sabbangparu, Wajo Regency
Abstract
Background: Nutritional status in adolescents can be influenced by indirect and direct factors including consumption of sweetened beverages. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and consumption of sweetened beverages with nutritional status of adolescents at MTsS Sabbangparu, Wajo Regency. Methods: This study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 150 students with a sample of 60 students obtained using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and anthropometric measurements, then analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: Based on the results of the correlation test, it was found that there was no relationship between knowledge and nutritional status of adolescents with a value of p = 0.885; r = -0.019 and there was a relationship between consumption of sweetened beverages with nutritional status of adolescents with a value of p = 0.000; r = 0.572. Conclusion: Direct factors in the form of consumption of sweetened beverages have a significant relationship with nutritional status of adolescents at MTsS Sabbangparu, Wajo Regency.
